I was told that perhaps the paint didn't cure properly. Ozone Machines running 24 hours a day, ( no pets or humans can be inside for ozone) I tried scrubbing the walls with baking soda and white vinegar. We are living in a rental, it's been over 4 months. I smelled it at first, strong, ( 1st week) now I smell a lingering vapor, it's been over 4 months. We painted the entire house in Harmony Low VOC, a month later the house still stinks like a sickly sweet smell described by others on the Harmony paint smell chain. Please who is your SW expert, can we have the phone number? Did your plan work? No resealing or repainting, thank goodness! I have been accused of having a Super Sniffer nose, and this really worked for me. This process made a HUGE difference in the room and there is very little odor left at all.

#Sherwin williams durations windows
On the third day I removed the heater and opened all the windows and turned on all the fans in the whole house (I got lucky with a 50+ degree day in early November.) I left the house for about 8 hours and let the whole house air out. The smell traveled just a little to other parts of the house, but the room was already smelling so much better. I turned the heater off at night and with normal furnace use the room stayed at about 75 degrees. The heater caused temperatures to reach as high as 95. I also put 2 large Moso Bamboo Charcoal bags (from The Container Store) in the room to absorb the odors. After reading lots of ideas from others with the same problem, I used this solution: I closed off the room for 2 days and ran a small space heater for about 10 hours a day in an effort to "bake" the paint to be sure it was completely dry. I will NEVER use Sherwin Williams paint again! I'll go back to Behr after I peel this crappy junk off my brand new bathroom walls.Ī week after priming and painting my son's bedroom, the smell was still overwhelming, even after using fans and opening windows everyday. Well, due to a lot of issues with the contractor doing a lot of slipshod work, I've had to hire a second contractor to fix the first contractor's mistakes - and during the removal and replacement of a brand new window, the Sherwin Williams paint literally started peeling off the walls! I've never seen anything like this in my life and I've done a lot of painting with semigloss in my 51 years. The contractor brought in a 5 gallon bucket of Promar200 and the owner of the company literally said to me 'you should use flat, semigloss peels off the walls' - I didn't believe him because every other wall in my house is painted in semigloss (most of it is Behr paint). Reducing the price would also allow the higher grade “ Emerald” exterior paint more market share and exposure.Well, it seems 6 years later, Sherwin Williams Paint is STILL peeling off walls! I recently had a bathroom and bedroom remodeled and my contractor told me to go to Sherwin Williams and pick out a color - I picked a color called High Reflective White and told them I wanted it in semigloss. Having used Sherwin Williams’s high-end exterior paints over the years, I find it hard to think the product is no longer worthy for exterior painting applications.Īt some point, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the price of Duration reduced. But do not expect the same elastomeric properties in the newer version. Sherwin Williams is using the same polymers and materials in the thinner version therefore I would expect the durability to be similar to the old version.

There is simply not enough time and usage with the product to determine as a contractor, whether the change quantifies any noticeable alterations in durability (long term).

How the changes will affect the quality is really undetermined. In many cases applying one coat of exterior Duration paint was almost equal to two coats of many competitor’s products. However, Duration once excelled in the thickness of paint applications. The solids were only about 40% in the thicker version anyways. As a result, the product is much easier to brush, but how does it cover? In our exterior painting experience, the coverage is surprisingly about the same as the previously ticker version.

Here recently the consistency of Duration (exterior) has changed, drastically. But what does a thinner version mean in terms of the quality of the product? Recently, Sherwin-Williams has changed the formula making the exterior “Duration” house paint thinner.
